Conservation Through a Lense - Photographer Spotlight - Nick Brandt

Last week a friend introduced me to the work by Nick Brandt and it left an impact. He started capturing african wildlife as pretty pictures, like most of us do. The image often carrying more weight than the reality behind it. But then, Brandt started to look beyond which led him to a greater understanding of and respect for the wildlife he was photographing and the habitat they live in. Having lived in Africa and enjoyed safari, I too am worried about decreasing habitat and small fenced wildlife reserves. Do we preserve species at all cost, even if their habitat is disappearing and their freedom impaired? For me wildlife and their habitat go hand in hand. No point saving one without the other. Unfortunately humans are the dominant species.
